Privacy

How your information will be handled.

Prepared 14 October 2026 for the private prelaunch site. Purchases remain closed while final release checks are completed.

Who is responsible for your information?

IrishWills.ie is operated by EstateBee Limited, trading as IrishWills.ie. We are the controller of the personal information used to run this service. Our company number is 11429690 and our registered office is 33 Canonbie Road, London, SE23 3AW, United Kingdom.

For a privacy request, email support@irishwills.ie or write to our registered office. Please start with a brief description of your request. Do not attach a completed will, identity document, medical record or password.

What information we use

When you create an account, we use your login and contact details. When you order, we record the products, price, billing information, payment status and payment reference. We also retain the terms and choices that applied to the order. Stripe handles card information; we do not store your full card number or card security code.

If you use the online will service, we save the answers you provide and the versions you generate. Depending on your choices, this can include names, addresses, family relationships, executors, guardians, beneficiaries, gifts and funeral wishes. This information comes from you. If a customer names another person, their information comes from that customer, rather than from a public source.

We use account activity, browser and connection information, essential cookies and security records to keep the website working and protect it from misuse. Support correspondence records the issue you ask us to resolve. Optional measurement is controlled separately through Cookie settings.

Why we use it

  • Providing the service: we use the information needed to create your account, save your work, prepare documents, administer payment, provide downloads and deal with your requests. For your own information, this is necessary to take the steps you request before a purchase and to perform our contract with you.
  • People named in a document: our legitimate interest is in providing a confidential estate-planning service, including recording the customer's intended appointments and gifts. We limit this use to what is needed for that purpose and take account of the rights and interests of the people concerned, particularly children. A customer's purchase does not give them authority to consent on everyone else's behalf.
  • Security and support: our legitimate interests are in keeping accounts secure, preventing abuse, investigating faults and responding to enquiries. We limit the information and access used for those purposes.
  • Legal records: we retain information necessary to meet applicable accounting, tax and other legal obligations. Where necessary, we also retain proportionate evidence to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
  • Optional measurement: where an optional cookie or similar feature requires your consent, it stays off unless you agree. You may change that choice at any time without losing access to the document service.

We do not sell your will answers or use people named in a will as a marketing list. The generator assembles a document from your choices; it does not make a legal decision about you or give an individual assessment of your circumstances.

Keep the information relevant

Only include information needed for the document. Do not put passwords, full payment-card details or unnecessary medical or other sensitive information in free-text answers. If your circumstances require sensitive supporting information or individual advice, contact us before sending it so that an appropriate process can be agreed.

You need to provide the essential account and document information for us to supply the service. If it is missing, we may be unable to save your work, process an order or produce the document you requested. Optional measurement is not a condition of using the service.

Who can receive information?

GoDaddy provides hosting and website email. Support messages are forwarded to the business's monitored email account, which uses Microsoft 365. Stripe receives the information needed to process payments, prevent fraud and comply with its obligations. Its role depends on the activity: it is not solely a processor acting on our instructions. See Stripe's privacy notice.

With your optional-measurement consent, Google Analytics receives limited information about visits to public pages, such as browser information, page titles and addresses, and the referring website. It is disabled on account, will, document and checkout pages and for signed-in visitors. Our cookie information explains the controls and retention settings. See Google's privacy notice.

Authorised people operating the business and its technical services may access information where needed for their work. Professional advisers or public authorities may receive information where there is an appropriate legal reason. We do not attach a completed will to routine order emails or include will answers in payment metadata.

The business is based in the United Kingdom, and service providers may process information in other countries. We do not promise storage exclusively in Ireland or the European Union. International transfers must have an applicable legal safeguard, such as an adequacy decision or contractual safeguards. You can contact us for information about the arrangements relevant to your information.

How saved documents are protected

Saved will answers and generated PDFs are encrypted on the server. The encryption key is kept outside the public website directory, and downloads require an ownership check. Website connections use HTTPS. Authorised administrators and the hosting service retain the technical access needed to operate the system; this is not end-to-end encryption.

Keep your account password private and store downloaded documents safely. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has accessed your account. No online service can promise that a security incident is impossible.

How long we keep information

Unpaid wills are retained for one year after the last edit. Paid wills are retained for five years after the customer's last account activity. We give at least 30 days' warning before scheduled deletion. The 30-day editing allowance is separate: the end of that allowance does not mean the saved will is immediately deleted.

Account information is kept while needed to provide access and administer the account. Order and financial records are kept for the applicable statutory record-keeping periods and, where justified, for resolving a dispute or legal claim. These records are considered separately from the contents of a will.

Support correspondence is kept while needed to resolve the enquiry and any related complaint or claim. Security records are kept for the period needed to operate the service, investigate incidents and protect accounts. We review information when its purpose ends and remove or anonymise information that no longer needs to be retained.

Restricted backup copies may remain until they expire or are replaced. Backups are for recovery, not routine use of deleted information. Before restoring a backup, we check it against recorded deletion requests. A specific legal obligation or documented legal hold may require some information to be kept for longer; access is limited accordingly.

Your rights and choices

Depending on the circumstances, you can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or object to a use based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent to a consent-based use without affecting its lawfulness before withdrawal. These rights are not absolute, and we must also protect other people's information and confidential wishes.

Contact support@irishwills.ie with your request. We may need proportionate information to check your identity. We normally respond within one month; if a lawful extension is needed, we will explain it within that first month. You do not need to send a copy of your will to start the process.

You can complain to Ireland's Data Protection Commission, the UK Information Commissioner's Office, or another competent supervisory authority. You can contact us first if you would like us to try to resolve your concern.
